Laura Wassmuth is an experienced attorney who specializes in health law, with a litigation practice spanning 27 years.
Ms. Wassmuth represents hospitals, healthcare providers, and medical organizations in civil disputes throughout Colorado’s state judicial districts and federal district court, as well as before regulatory agencies and licensing boards and in administrative proceedings, including fair hearings.
As a certified workplace investigator, she also conducts independent investigations of employee misconduct and related workplace complaints for hospitals, healthcare providers, school districts, and other institutional clients throughout Colorado.
Litigation
Her areas of expertise in litigation include medical negligence claims, general liability and defense against fraud and abuse allegations, credentialing claims, employment matters, and civil rights claims involving public employers. She has extensive experience litigating patient privacy and protected health information breach incidents, discovery of electronic medical records and retention practices, civil rights claims involving public healthcare providers, guardianships in the healthcare setting, and employment and agency issues. Ms. Wassmuth also works with entities providing skilled nursing, assisted living, and long-term care.
Healthcare & Medical Staff General Counsel
Ms. Wassmuth guides hospital and medical staff leadership teams in credentialing and medical staff investigations, including peer review and credentialing processes. She has led independent investigations of physician misconduct involving criminal allegations, medical billing and quality-of-care concerns, and she advises investigative committees on process, report writing, and fact-finding. Her healthcare investigation work includes matters involving medical billing, workplace harassment, discrimination, and criminal and administrative misconduct.
Additionally, she advises hospitals and healthcare institutions on patient safety and risk management issues, medical staffing and credentialing, and physician retention and employment disputes.

Her school district experience includes investigation and litigation of violence in the education setting and investigations involving senior district leadership and criminal allegations against individuals. She advises school districts on employee due process requirements, policy compliance, and risk management in high-profile personnel matters.
