Rachel Awalt’s practice focuses on health law and civil litigation, representing healthcare providers, medical professionals, and healthcare organizations in regulatory matters, professional licensure defense, and medical malpractice cases.

Before joining Caplan & Earnest, Rachel represented clients in Grand Junction in complex civil litigation, real property disputes, land use matters, and advised municipal and governmental entities. She has experience defending medical professionals in regulatory proceedings before the Colorado Medical Board, Colorado Dental Board, and Colorado State Board of Nursing, as well as handling medical malpractice litigation.

Rachel’s healthcare practice includes counseling providers through complaint investigations, administrative hearings, and disciplinary proceedings. She also handles employment law matters affecting healthcare organizations and assists clients with mediation and alternative dispute resolution.

Rachel is committed to making a positive impact in her community and previously served as a Boulder County Planning Commissioner from 2023-2024. She has also volunteered with the Intercultural Outreach Initiative in the Galapagos and served as Logistics Lead for the Juneau Icefield Research Program.

Rachel earned her Juris Doctor from the University of Colorado Law School, where she was a finalist in the Colorado Appellate Advocacy Competition and received the Best Draft award in the Transactional Competition. She also served as a Moot Court Member and participated in the Women of Color Collective and Acequia Assistance Project. She earned her bachelor’s degree, cum laude, in Ecosystem Science and Policy and International Relations from the University of Miami.

Outside of work, Rachel enjoys exploring Colorado’s outdoors and staying connected to her Nederland community.
